About SAAM

SAAM was established in 1994 to promote the interests of the mechanics’ community in South Africa. The association oversees and coordinates conferences and promotes commercial and academic activities in the general area of theoretical, experimental and computational mechanics in South Africa. In addition, SAAM represents South African interests at the International Union for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (http://www.iutam.org). Membership in SAAM is open to all persons who are engaged in activities related to mechanics. SAAM membership for 2024 is automatically granted to all full delegates who attended SACAM 2024. Prof. Nico Wilke of the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering, University of Pretoria, is currently president of SAAM.
